Up the Creek, was photographed at Leigh Marshes, Old Leigh in Essex, a place where river, sea, and working life meet. The image centres on an abandoned fishing boat resting quietly in the narrow tidal channels of the marsh. In the distance, the familiar line of **Southend Pier** draws the eye outwards to the shimmering horizon of the Thames Estuary.
Foreground textures of wild grasses and seed heads frame the scene in earthy detail, contrasting with the weathered timbers and faded paint of the vessel. The meandering creek reflects silvery light, guiding the gaze towards open water and the suggestion of vastness beyond.
This work belongs to the tradition of contemporary coastal photography, yet it holds echoes of maritime history. It is both atmospheric and grounded, conveying solitude, stillness, and a quiet dialogue between human endeavour and the tidal landscape. In a home or workspace, Up the Creek carries with it a sense of place — both local and universal — where memory and estuary light intertwine.
